Day 038: Keep your eyes and mind open!
It is great we can still go outside, enjoy the sunny weather and explore some unknown and more familiar places as well. The spring is evidently starting to be here, all our senses are waking up and we can hear the birds singing, see some signs of small buds starting to open, more greenery and colours all around, but also the smell of spring and summer in the air. It is time to go outside, spend some more time observing the surroundings, activate all your senses, stop randomly in a random place, listen and feel the atmosphere. Can you notice some new things in your surroundings? Have you checked the courtyard of the neighbouring block? Observed all the small details of the facades in the neighbourhood? Or discovered some random spaces or places close to your home? Have you paid attention to rain gutters, window dampers, gates, or house door handles? By the way, have you ever noticed a house with some bear figures on the facade in Aleksanterinkatu in Helsinki? It is a very site spacific thing, but maybe you have something similar in your home town or something even cooler than that? What else do you see or notice around you?
Random details, spaces, places and atmospheres from Tokyo.
Today we are really opening all our senses and heading out to have a little walk around the neighbourhood to enjoy the urban places and daily environment with some new goggles on. We do not need to go so far always, sometimes it is just enough to look at the the surroundings with new eyes and open mind. Stop for a while, enjoy, observe and pay attention to the little details that you haven’t noticed before. The goal is to find an interesting place, space or detail that is really making an impression to you. It can be a small thing or a bigger thing. After a little sensory walk we shall return back home and memorize and use our imagination to express the feeling, details or look of your finding. If the weather is extremely good, maybe it could be great to stay outside a bit longer, take your notebook, brushes and some paper with you and do the whole activity outside! We at Bobola have also collected a number of images from some inspirational places we have recently visited, lived or just explored. Based on some of the pictures we have made a visual note. What place caught your attention today? What have you drawn or painted today?
Random things and places are exciting in New York. These perspectives, views and places caught our attention in NYC 2019.
I have noticed that when I am traveling I am not so interested in the ordinary sightseeing spots but rather some random things hidden behind them. I usually enjoy the ugly places more than the most polished and beautiful places. I like contrast and roughness rather than new and shiny things. I have also noticed that I am paying attention in the daily environment to very random things that are not even important according to some other audience or most noticed neither. Details and places that have just appeared with no planning are kind of exciting. Observing, wandering, getting lost and stopping in to random places is so cool!
One of strongest visual memories from the environment. A very random thing changed the meaning of a space to a place. I can still remember everything around this place. The building, the atmosphere, colours, smells, all the things related to the place. It is a very small thing but it has an important meaning for me.
Visual notebook of the place and some details from there.
I have also paid a lot of attention to my daily environment today. I noticed that one building that I have been passing so many times has actually a very fancy facade with multiple colours and details on different surfaces, there used to be a short cut from Liisankatu to Oikokatu, (I could also take a sneak peek to that old road), on the way from the station to back home the weed that is growing in between the tiles has woken up again and on the facade of the neighbouring apartment house there is a weird detail on the facade. How was your little sensory walk and what did you see? How is your visual memory of the day? You are more than welcome to share it with us on Instagram #bobolafi
Have a lovely adventure today!
Dear followers we want to remind you that parents assume all responsibility for the safety of their children in these activities.
