Day 029: Spatial experiments

Feeling spaces

Feeling spaces

Today we are exploring spaces and new perspectives with a playful way! Even if building cushion huts and crawling on the floor is considered as a activity for children only, I would highly recommend taking some new perspectives to our daily environments for anyone. Being inside almost all day needs some innovative ways to use the spaces and also it is a great excuse to be a bit childish and explore the world around us in new and unexpected ways. How would it feel to look at the world from the floor level or read in a cushion hut? Please take in consideration and keep in mind to play safe and follow the children all the time! We have figured and tested out some ways to explore the spatial aspect of our surroundings in some ways. Do you come up with another way maybe?

1. This is an all time favourite. Building a cushion castle or a hut is just a great way to explore the spatial experience. How does it feel to be in a small space, open space or closed space? Take care when building with cushions, help and supervision is more than recommended to help children! We have also noticed that the hairier members of the family are truly enjoying this activity!

2. Enjoying a dinner or a picnic on the kitchen floor could be something for a chance. Maybe you can test it out with the whole family. Make it a little festive with a nice set of dished to be enjoyed together. How does that perspective look like? How about testing the same principle by creating a jungle in the bathroom and enjoying a cool picnic in the middle of the greenery? Plants love showers, so you can easily kill two birds with the same stone. Shower the plants first and after build an amazing jungle in the bathroom. What else would you need to create that jungle like spatial experience?

3. The weather is not very good for outdoor activities in Finland this week, but we are sure the spring is here soon as well, so we are preparing for outdoor activities too! Do you happen to have some old bed linens or some bigger scarfs that could be used for building a temporary shelter outdoors? You would also need something to tie the textiles on trees or maybe on the balcony structures. If you set textiles on different levels how does it feel? Can you create and exciting space with different heights and colours?

Do you have any other amazing ideas in your mind that you could share with us?

Have an explorative spatial day!

Dear followers we want to remind you that parents assume all responsibility for the safety of their children in these activities.
